Collaboration with AMORIM CORK

The AJF/design studio started collaborating with Amorim Cork in May 2019 to develop a line of high design products made with cork coming from the recovery and grinding of bottle cork stoppers and possibly other materials that could make the product more functional, useful and sustainable. Having set the objectives to be achieved and studying the characteristics of the recycled cork, before and after grinding, various concepts have been developed to respond to a demanding market that is attentive to the quality of the product and what it represents. The increase in material destined for recycling and the decrease in raw materials require effective and urgent market strategies, all which have inspired this partnership. Cork is a material that has interesting prospects if developed with quality projects. The market for furniture and accessories in general has used very little cork for “high level” products. We believe that, by combining a responsible company capable of managing the recovery of material with ideas for the creation of design products as well as involving furniture brands and the production of furnishing accessories, we can open up a new market for recycled cork. In recent years, after a trip to Portugal and the exploration of Sardinia to get to know the companies that deal with the production and marketing of cork, we have decided to design some design products to enhance the use of cork.
